The Bible Concerns Of Peter - 2082 Words
One fascinating story in the Bible concerns Peter. He was, from the beginning, a colorful character. He was a natural leader, boisterous, first to speak even before his brain was engaged sometimes, full of bravado until it came to the arrest of Jesus, the crucifixion, and the events surrounding it. Peter was the one who wanted to take on the soldiers who arrested Jesus. He unleashed his sword and sliced an ear off a servant of the High Priest. He was the one who denied Jesus when the heat was on in the High Priestââ¬â¢s courtyard. He went out weeping, filled with guilt and doubt (Luke 22:62). Within weeks, this same beaten man was standing up preaching fearlessly and watching as some three thousand repented and were baptized. He healedâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Paul wanted to know the power of the resurrection in his lifeââ¬âpower to overcome temptation, power to live a victorious Christian life, power to be an effective, fearless disciple (Romans 8:11). The other major event was the coming of the Holy Spirit to indwell all of Christââ¬â¢s disciples. Previously, the Holy Spirit had come upon individuals for particular ministriesââ¬âbut now, as part of the new relationship that God wanted with His people, the Spirit was going to permanently indwell Christians. Jesus had promised the disciples He would send this Spirit, although He didnââ¬â¢t fill them in completely about what the Spirit would be doing. However, after the resurrection, Jesus didnââ¬â¢t hang back. His final words before departing were dramatic: ââ¬Å"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you,â⬠he told them in Acts 1:8. And so it was. Peter was soon on his feet preaching one of the most powerful sermons of all time. Many people believe that this verse does not apply to them. That somehow that power was solely related to the early church. That belief is reinforced by the unfortunate abuse of the Holy Spirit by those claiming a great deal more than they should in the name of Christ. The truth is not that we need more of the Holy Spirit, but that He should have more of us. When we yield ourselves to Christ, putting all hindrances to death, and live in the power of the resurrection, then the power of the Spirit can be released in us. A Message
Nightingaleââ¬â¢s Spirituality in Practice Free Essays
Nightingaleââ¬â¢s Spirituality in Practice Binbin Zheng Vanguard University Nightingaleââ¬â¢s Spirituality in Practice Spirituality is an abstract concept, however may be encountered on a daily basis. The first time when I came across the meaning of spirituality was in a survey to choose a most spiritual person among students at high school. As English is my second language, I did not fully understand the concept. We will write a custom essay sample on Nightingaleââ¬â¢s Spirituality in Practice or any similar topic only for you Order Now Therefore, before integrating spiritual care to patient, what spirituality is shall be defined first. In a conference for spiritual care, spirituality is defined as ââ¬Å"an aspect of humanity, the search for the significant or sacred, and being inclusive of philosophical, religious, spiritual, and existential issues that arise in the clinicalâ⬠(Puchalski, et al., 2009, p. 886-887). Furthermore, Ruth Beckmann Murray and Judith Proctor Zenter described spirituality as ââ¬Å"trying to be in harmony with the universe, and strives for answers about the infinite, and comes into focus when the person faces emotional stress, physical illness, or deathâ⬠(1989). The definition the I concur the most is that ââ¬Å"the core of a personââ¬â¢s being and usually is conceptualized as a ââ¬Ëhigherââ¬â¢ experience or a transcendence of oneselfâ⬠(Maul Schmidt, 2004, p. 2). Thus, how is physical health related with spirituality? According to the survey that presented by Maddox, most people believe in prayer and God would intervene the disease. However, the principles behind are not clearly revealed (2002).Mauk and Schmidt suggested that ââ¬Å"suffering is an ongoing state that affects a personââ¬â¢s sense of well-beingâ⬠(2004). It usually causes the person to become low in spirit if they are physically ill. Just as Nightingale defined health as ââ¬Å"not only to be well, but to be able to use well every power we have to useâ⬠CITATION Mas12 l 2052 (Masters, 2012). Nightingale stress to not limit nursing to administration of medications and other procedural care, but care for patients holistically with the spiritual care as well. Her 13 canons revolutionized nursing, and stayed applicable for current nursing. Nightingaleââ¬â¢s philosophy of nursing could be inferred from her theory that even an ill person shall not be treated as an object. Nightingale perceived the care needed to be delivered from the patientsââ¬â¢ point of view.Nightingaleââ¬â¢s theory was not invented by herself just sitting and writing about nursing, she took good care of the sick and wounded, even at late night, she made rounds to check on patientsââ¬â¢ condition. Nightingaleââ¬â¢s parents opposed her calling to care for the suffering, poor, and physically ill people. She convinced her parents in the end and became a nurse. While Nightingale was working as a nurse in the battlefield, she was distrusted by the other healthcare team. Nightingale was not discouraged; on the other hand, she strived to improve the care for the patient at that time. Nightingale went the extra mile for her regular job responsibilities. The effort, care, and love that Nightingale gave helped her to earn the other healthcare team and even soldiersââ¬â¢ respect. Nightingale was intelligent and well-educated, moreover, her passion and her spirituality drived her to accomplish all the changes not only in nursing but in the entire healthcare system. One outstanding quality she had was the scrutiny with the patientsââ¬â¢ point view. As the little details and signs that were missed by most nurses, Nightingale discerned those clues, subsequently figured out the root cause of the phenomenon.A good patient scenario where Nightingaleââ¬â¢s theory could be applied both to the physical and spiritual will be hospice patient. Mr. M is a 52-year-old Chinese who was recently admitted for hospice due to end-stage liver cancer. His wife passed away 5 years ago due to heart attack, they did not have any child. (Mr. M lives by himself in a one-bedroom house in a safe community. He used to keep things that were even broken and expired in the living room. Newspapers and magazines are lying on the dining table chaotically, dirty laundry filed up on a broken massage chair. However, the bed is always made, and a picture of his wife is on the bed dresser. The window blinds are closed most of the time, and there is only one lamp in living room and another one in bedroom. The house is not well lit normally. There is no paintings or photos on the wall. The house in general feels gloomy.) Mr. M expressed that he misses his wife in addition to the symptoms of side effects from chemotherapy and deteriorating condition. Mr. M is a Christian, he has not been to a church since his wifeââ¬â¢s death, his niece and brother are the only people visits him weekly. Mr. M usually watches news on TV during daytime, and goes to bed early in the evening. Both nursing care and spiritual care could be applied for Mr. Mââ¬â¢s scenario using Nightingaleââ¬â¢s nursing theory. Using her 1st canon ââ¬Å"Ventilation and warmthâ⬠CITATION Mas12 l 1033 (Masters, 2012). How to cite Nightingaleââ¬â¢s Spirituality in Practice, Papers

How to find your first job out of collegeÃÂ - TheJobNetwork
How to find your first job out of collegeà - TheJobNetwork If youââ¬â¢ve recently graduated college then congratulations are in order- youââ¬â¢ve reached a significant life milestone and should be proud of your accomplishment! That said, just because youââ¬â¢ve achieved this goal doesnââ¬â¢t mean your work is done. For many people, graduating from college is the starting point for the next big life challenge- the job and career journey. Unless youââ¬â¢re lucky enough to not have to work (or get rich quick by inventing something amazingly innovative and are able to retire early to some sunny and tropical beach), most of our professional journeys span several decades and are a major part of our overall life satisfaction. Therefore, itââ¬â¢s worth your time and effort to take your first job out of college seriously; often, your first job after graduation can set the tone, pace, and trajectory for your climb up the career ladder- so plan carefully.Todayââ¬â¢s job market is no easy environment. On top of intense competition (b oth from other new graduates and seasoned work veterans) across most industries and sectors, economic uncertainty, increasing globalization, and rapidly changing technological innovation thatââ¬â¢s revolutionizing the staffing needs of companies means that recent graduates face significant challenges when seeking their first jobs.Yes, unless youââ¬â¢re incredibly lucky or well-connected, chances are youââ¬â¢ll face some challenges as you hunt for your first job out of college- but donââ¬â¢t despair! The truth is, those who work hard and dedicate themselves fully to their job-search efforts have the best chance of landing their target jobs and beginning their career journeys on the right foot, while those who take a more casual or lackadaisical approach will likely face a bigger struggle.Which approach are you going to take?If youââ¬â¢re fresh out of college or soon will be, consider utilizing the following strategies for locking down your first job and moving forward on your path to professional success.Determine your target fieldIn order to conduct an effective job hunt you need a clearly defined target- the industry, field, or sector that youââ¬â¢d like to work in. Consider this your ââ¬Å"starting point,â⬠the direction youââ¬â¢d like to move towards and where youââ¬â¢d like to devote your professional energy and efforts.Use your college experience as a guide- what is your degree in? Did you have any internships or extracurricular or volunteer experiences that can help inform your choice? Are there trusted mentors or family members who can help you figure out a potential career fit for you?Use the research tools at your disposal to get a closer look and a better perspective of the fields that seem attractive to you. For example, many industries have professional associations that maintain an active online presence, including websites with loads of helpful job and career information. Your collegeââ¬â¢s career office may also have additional resources and may even hold special events like job fairs and info sessions to help you get started. Also, keep an eye and ear out for professional networking events in your town or city. Use your experience, interests, passions, research, and the trusted advice of others to take this crucial first step and determine the target field that feels right to you.Determine your goal positionOnce you have a target field in your sights, focus on a position that youââ¬â¢d like to pursue. Be realistic- you may want to start at the top (and stay there), but very few folks get CEO jobs straight out of college. Youââ¬â¢re more than likely going to have to pay your dues while you learn the industry, so focus on assistant-level or junior-level positions to start. Look at people whose career trajectories mirror your aspirations and see how they started their first jobs in the field. See if your background, education, and experiences have prepared you for realistically pursuing your goal position. If so, then go for it!Prepare yourselfOnce you know the position and field youââ¬â¢re aiming for, use the job search tools at your disposal- everything from online job sites to resources at your college, professional connections in your network, and job events in your town- to find suitable open positions. Research companies in your target industry and see if their official websites have career pages that list available job openings. Then prepare yourself for what will hopefully be a steady stream of potential opportunities. Make sure your cover letters and resumes are professional, polished, and perfectly targeted for the jobs youââ¬â¢re going after. Make sure your interview skills are razor sharp (remember, practice makes perfect). Having the desire to get a new job is great, but it wonââ¬â¢t help you leap ahead of the competition. Youââ¬â¢ll need a complete pitch-perfect package if youââ¬â¢re going to make your goal a reality.Donââ¬â¢t let f ailure stop youA key component of a successful job hunt is patience and determination. Very few of us land a job after just one interview- or even after a few attempts. The truth is, a job hunt is more like a waiting game, with plenty of rejection and disappointment along the way. Donââ¬â¢t let this discourage or deter you in your quest to land your first job out of college- stay focused and determined, learn from what you did right and wrong, and be confident that each attempt will be better than the last as you move closer and closer towards success.

Schloarship essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Married to a United States Marine Corp Disabled Veteran - Essay Example One of the main challenges faced by the families of these soldiers is relocation. Soldiers, depending on their job within the military, receive orders to move to different bases all over the country and occasionally to other countries. These orders can be given sporadically, either within a dayââ¬â¢s, weekââ¬â¢s, or yearââ¬â¢s notice. When these families are moved to new and different places it puts a strain on everyone connected to the family, not just the immediate family themselves. Being moved to a new home isolates the family, for the time being, from everything they know. The family has no friends or other relatives in their new home, no one outside of their home to share a relationship with. A soldierââ¬â¢s wife or husband has no friends to talk with or to confide in or seek help. The children of these soldiers have to deal with attending a new and potentially frightening school and making new friends while worrying about replacing the ones they had to leave behind . Truly relocating is a scary and challenging time for these military families. One of the biggest and most difficult and stressful times for these families is the deployment process of their loved one. During deployment itself, the soldier becomes physically and geographically separated from his or her family. Regardless of whether or not the family has to relocate, the absence of the family member can be stressful. The soldierââ¬â¢s spouse is now acting as a single parent. He or she may have sole responsibility for maintaining the household and raising the children and accomplishing the day to day duties. The familyââ¬â¢s financial situation may also require the spouse to take on another job or else change to a new one. If the deployed parent was a single parent, to begin with, these problems are intensified. The children may feel isolated if they are unable to communicate with their deployed parent, their only parent. They will worry about their parentââ¬â¢s safety. Beca use of the changed family structure, they may be experiencing inconsistent parenting, or changes in the family schedule, responsibilities and rules.
